Volunteer Spotlight

You may have met Erika at a shelter breakfast, working in a garden, cleaning a beach or building a trail. Since signing up for one of our very first projects in 2011, she has volunteered as a project leader for many projects including her favorite: making dog toys and packing treats to give to a local animal rescue.

The passion that drove her to join The Honeycomb Project still stirs in her three years later. Erika thinks that it is important to teach children at an early age that “there are a lot of things that they can do to make our city a better place to live in.” Giving back to Chicago and our communities are great lessons we can all pass on to the next generation of do-gooders.
