Our Impact
Lessons That Last a Lifetime
Our MINDSET
We learn, give, and grow together
+ Organizations
Nonprofits across the city rely on us to fortify their work. We provide reliable volunteers and vital resources, while growing passionate supporters for the long-term.
+ Volunteers
We work where we live. Honeycomb volunteer families come from all over the Chicago area — representing 88% of our city’s zip codes. 83% of Chicago volunteers live in low to moderate income neighborhoods.
Unlimited Opportunities
Through a range of programs, resources, and partnerships, we tackle our city’s big challenges. Our volunteer programs are designed so that families can learn, give, and grow together.
Community Impact
More than a Decade of Doing Good
Since 2011, more than 40,000 kids and families have volunteered with Honeycomb. Honeycomb kids work and learn alongside their parents — preparing home-cooked meals at shelters, growing fresh vegetables at city farms, and building nature trails along the Chicago River. Families are not just giving back, they’re helping transform the quality of Chicago’s communities for the long term.

“Honeycomb has been an amazing outlet for me to work together with people dedicated to service. When members of our community work in unison to solve a problem, we can achieve lasting change.”

our bold approach
We put kids at the forefront of social change
Youth are leading movements across the country, and we’re mobilizing our youngest right here in Chicago.
Gaining perspective
We help kids connect with complex issues through personal experience. 72% of Honeycomb parents say their kids are more informed about social issues after volunteering with us.
Inspiring empathy
Caring for others is at the core of Honeycomb’s programs. Through our enriching site-specific curriculum, we challenge kids and parents to leave their biases at the door and deepen their emotional connections to others.
Connecting communities
Chicago is richly diverse, but incredibly segregated. We bring families together to explore our city, learn about social issues, and work together to build stronger communities for all. Families from 120+ local zip-codes participated in our programs last year.
Strengthening nonprofits
Nonprofits across the city struggle to keep up with demand for service. We bring them people-power and resources. Beyond volunteering, 37% of Honeycomb kids donate goods and 18% donate money to our local partners.
Building a culture of philanthropy
When Honeycomb families engage in civic activities together, it makes an impact that lasts for generations. Research shows kids who volunteer with their parents are 3X more likely to volunteer and donate later in life.
Screen-free quality time
Call us old-fashioned, but we believe the best memories are made offline. Honeycomb programs are designed to help families take a break from their busy schedules to connect with each other and others through service.
