Perry Family
Say hello to Tiffany, Arthur, Mikayla (16), Skylaar (12), and Jayda (9). Every member of the Perry family shares their time and talent with Honeycomb and other organizations to make our city stronger.
“I enjoy family volunteering and individual volunteering because it allows me to offer my skills and life experiences to others,” she said. Tiffany teaches her family about the joys of volunteering by trying to sign them up for at least one volunteer project a month. The Honeycomb Project was a natural fit for them, because while other organizations placed age limits on their events, Honeycomb is open to all. This allowed all of her children to participate and learn about the importance of helping others. “I want to teach my children that they don’t have to get paid to work. Working with others and for good causes can be a reward in and of itself.”
Tiffany’s favorite Honeycomb event so far was one of our beach cleanups. Working on maintaining the beach gave her family a different perspective than they would have had while being “beach bums”, she said. Seeing the immediate benefits of a clean beach while working with other passionate people was a great way to spend a morning. “I enjoyed the love, respect and camaraderie amongst volunteers that were there. It made the event special to me.”
Outside of attending Honeycomb Project events, the Perry family keep busy. Tiffany is a very active volunteer with Chicago Cares, and as a member of the National Association of University Women where she helps make a difference by providing scholarships for college students. Arthur Perry III, is a minister, musician, and a maintenance man. Mikayla volunteers as a helper at the Chicago Public Library. Skylaar will participate in the upcoming CityWide Spelling Bee. And Jayda is a budding entrepreneur who creates her own advice videos.
